Dear Members and Facility Users,
Unfortunately, the Pickering Soccer Centre dome collapsed under the weight of snow on Monday January 17. The winter blast saw up to 10 centimetres of snow falling each hour. The snow came quickly and didn't disperse from the top of the dome.
There were no injuries with the Pickering dome collapse; it was closed due to the pandemic restrictions. The office area is unscathed and still operable under existing COVID guidelines.
On Monday, Club staff contacted our contractor, The Farley Group, who had us turn off the fans allowing the dome to come down in a controlled manner limiting damage. Crews were on site on Tuesday January 18 to assess the damage and they will be providing a formal report to our Board. The contractor is currently working their way across the GTA, because other domes have gone down.
A full Board Meeting will be held this week to review the report from our contractor and propose a timeline to get back on our feet. After that we will be able to inform you of our plans specific to each program.
Please do not visit the site as the parking lot and roadways are used by City vehicles to help clean and salt the roads, and they are still out there working!
We sincerely thank you for your understanding and patience.
PFC Board and Staff.
