Impact on Recreational Programming

Update: Friday November 11, 2022

Good afternoon everyone…some good news has come out of this past week as the gym at St. Mary’s Catholic Secondary School is once again available to us. The renewal of contract negotiations between CUPE and the Province of Ontario has made the gym available for us on November 13th and moving forward. There are no time changes in the programs.

Please note that we will move the missed sessions/games of November 6th to January. This means that the full 10 Sunday Fall Program will take place with the final games/sessions of the Fall Season being moved to January. The Winter program at St Mary’s will be delayed 1 week in January with this change. Team apps will be updated over today/tomorrow to include the January date.

Please note that we did not have any disruptions at Dunbarton on November 6th. This means there are no changes in the Fall schedules for U10, U12 and U15.  The Fall season at Dunbarton will end on December 18th and the Winter season at Dunbarton will start in January as originally planned.

Your patience and support during this have been greatly appreciated.

Regards,

The Pickering FC

Update: Friday November 4, 2022

Hello Members,

This morning PFC received notification from the Durham Catholic District School Board that due to the CUPE strike, permits for St Mary’s and all of their schools have been cancelled for November 4th, 5th, and 6th.  This means that the Pickering FC soccer U3, U4, U5, U6 and U7/8 recreational programs scheduled for Sunday, November 6th will not take place and be rescheduled to a later date.

The games and sessions scheduled for Sunday, November 6 will be moved to a Sunday in January. PFC will update you on the schedule for January as soon as we can assign a date for a make up.  Please note that no games or sessions will be lost due to the CUPE / Province of Ontario negotiations as the full Fall Season will be completed. The start of the winter season will be determined once we have established the reschedules for any Fall Season games and sessions.

PFC will update you next week on the status of St Mary’s for the November 13th weekend.

Please note that if you have child in a program at Dunbarton on November 5 or 6 those programs will take place as schedule.  The permit that the Pickering FC has for Saturday/Sunday at Dunbarton HS is with the City of Pickering and is not impacted by the current CUPE / Province of Ontario situation.

Thank you for your understanding.

Regards,

Pickering FC

Update: Thursday November 3, 2022

Message for Rec programs at Dunbarton

Good afternoon/evening everyone and hope that you are doing well!

We would like to update you on the status of the Indoor Rec Program for the U9/10, U11/12 and U13-15 divisions at Dunbarton High School on Sundays. We have been advised that the gym will be available this Sunday and therefore games will take place as scheduled.

The permit that the Club has for the gym at Dunbarton is through the City of Pickering and the City provides a staff person to open, close and stay on site for our weekend permits at Dunbarton. As such, the CUPE strike of school workers does not impact our use of Dunbarton on weekends.

Should there be a change in status we will update you using messaging/emails from the team app, posting here on www.pickeringfc.ca and social media. We encourage you to make sure that you have your child’s SE team app and that you follow us on Twitter, Facebook and/or Instagram to stay connected to the Club.

Message for Rec Programs at St Mary’s

Good afternoon/evening everyone and hope that you are doing well!

We would like to update you on the status of the Indoor Rec Program for the U3, U4, U5, U6 and U8 divisions at St Mary’s Catholic Secondary School on Sundays.

The permit for the gym at St Mary’s comes to us from the Durham Catholic District School Board. As you are no doubt aware there is potential strike activity from CUPE for educational workers, custodians and librarians at both public and Catholic schools across Ontario. With the permit for St Mary’s being provided to us by the Durham Catholic District School Board the availability of access and use of the gym for this Sunday, November 6th and potential future Sundays will be determined by the Durham Catholic District School Board. Our access to the school and gym is provided by a school custodian who is a member of CUPE.

As of today, Thursday, November 3rd we have not received an update from the Durham Catholic District School Board with respect to this Sunday. Once we have received an update we will very quickly get the message out to you via the team app, www.pickeringfc.ca and social media. We encourage you to make sure that you have your child’s SE team app and that you follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and/or Instagram so that you can stay up to date on the status of not only the gym at St Mary’s for this Sunday but on all club news.

Should any Sundays be postponed because of the CUPE/Province of Ontario negotiations they will be made up and added to the end of the fall season schedule…they will NOT be lost.

Thank you all for your support and understanding.
