Goal Keepers

Our Academy program will provide all Goalkeepers with the opportunity to receive consistent, structured and progressive goalkeeper training.  The program will allow the Goalkeeper to gain the knowledge and skills to understand their role.  The training will follow a program which is adapted to fit the still developing bodies based on the LTPD model implemented by Ontario Soccer. The program will be split by season; a summer and a winter program.

Our coaches are qualified and knowledgeable and understand the needs and demands of this unique position.  The coaching philosophy emphasizes guided repetition and will challenge goalkeepers to discover and repeat skills until the correct techniques are mastered.

The Goalkeeper program runs both outdoor and indoor, and is divided into three different groups based on age and ability as seen below. Goalkeepers will have the opportunity to progress based on ability.

  • Fundamentals – U8 – U10
  • Learn to Train – U11 – U13
  • Train to Train – U14 +

Program Curriculum:

The goalkeeper needs to master a specialized array of skill sets to become a success on the field.

Physical: SAQ (speed, agility and quickness), balance, endurance, and strength.

Mental: Dealing with mistakes (moment after a mistake), dealing with pressure (different types of pressure but still playing the same way), dealing with failure or criticism, being the most confident person on the field, mentally controlling your 18, staying motivated, decision making, and mental conditioning to last a full game.

Tactical:   Understanding principles of defending and attacking (better understand both sides of the ball), understand all positions on the field (help better communicate with your team), situational soccer (understanding of when to hurry or slow down the game), being a keeper sweeper, and set pieces.
